New York, 1955, private investigator Harry Angel takes on a new case from a stranger. A man calling himself Louis Cyphre hires him to track down a certain Johnny Favorite. His investigation has barely begun when everyone suspected of holding clues is killed in mysterious circumstances. As the bodies pile up and time presses, Harry Angel is plagued by strange satanic visions. This is no ordinary case, and Harry is no ordinary detective.

By matching the codes of film noir with those of thriller and fantasy, Alan Parker (Midnight Express, Mississippi Burning) directs an ultimate genre film.
