Ash and Linda arrive at Professor Knowby's mountain cabin. Linda is kidnapped and beheaded by mysterious forces, and anyone who approaches the house is killed. A curse weighs on the house because, right here, the professor had attempted to decipher a manuscript about the spirits of darkness and their terrible influence on humans, and then disappeared. Ash is joined by Anne, the professor's daughter, who, by uttering the magic words from her father's old book, defeats a hideous, gigantic being, only to be plunged back into the past. Ash, through a vortex of space and time, finds himself in the Middle Ages, hailed as a hero by a large crowd of men for having slain Evil.
