Tom Blaine cannot figure out how to take control of his life. Still reeling from the trauma brought on by the failure of his first marriage, which ended after his wife left him for  another woman, Tom drifts deeper and deeper into self-hatred and resentment towards others. As he becomes increasingly paranoid that those around him are conspiring to  manipulate and deprive him of happiness, Tom’s erotic daydreams -- or are they memories? -- along with his increasingly strained relationships with his new lover, old friends, and strangers threaten to drive him closer to the brink of madness and violence.
