The true story of Alvin Straight, a 73-year-old American man whose peaceful existence is turned upside down by an unexpected phone call: his brother Lyle, with whom he has never had a great relationship, has had a heart attack. Alvin, without a driving license but with a strong spirit, decides to visit him by climbing on his slow tractor, which is travelling almost 400 km at a speed of 8 km/h. He meets many people: a pregnant girl who has run away from home, two dazed twin mechanics, a priest, all surrounded by the endless American landscape.
