Final Fantasy XI, also known as Final Fantasy XI Online, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, the first to offer cross-platform play between PlayStation 2 and personal computer. It was also the Xbox 360's first MMORPG.

The setting of Final Fantasy XI is the world of Vana'diel, a rich world with diverse climates, ranging from northern glaciers and southern deserts, to ethereal realms and sky landmasses.

Ancient lore states that Vana'diel was created as a playground for the Gods and their children, who themselves were spawned from an enormous and sentient Crystal. The creation lore's sentient Crystal, Gods, Children, and the truths behind them feature as major plot points in several Final Fantasy XI expansion packs.
