The FBI is desperately trying to track down a serial killer known as Buffalo Bill, who abducts and murders his female victims, then removes pieces of their skin. To create a psychological profile of the killer, young FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) visits the imprisoned psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a cannibalistic murderer, in a maximum-security prison. However, during their conversations, the highly intelligent doctor has his own agenda: In exchange for any information he provides, he demands intimate insights into the aspiring agent's past, and she becomes increasingly entangled in his perfidious web of manipulation, power, and psychological games. While Clarice wastes precious time, Buffalo Bill already has his next victim in his sights...
