Norman, a young historian, has relocated from New York to Boston with his wife Lucy and young son Bob to pursue certain research. His predecessor had committed suicide there. Norman rents a house, which the agent Laura arranges for him. Since the death of Peterson, who previously lived there, the house has had a bad reputation. Not least because more than a hundred years ago a certain Dr. Freudenstein lived in it and since then really weird things have happened. Little Bob repeats daily that he knows and meets a little girl, but no one has ever seen her. And something seems to be lurking in the basement of the house too! Bit by bit the family gets closer to the old secret of their house.
